Laura Bell Bundy didn't wait until fifteen to understand how the industry worked. In 1995, she appeared in Jumanji, playing the young Sarah Whittle. It was a small role, but it caught the attention of New York casting directors who noticed a girl from Kentucky who seemed to have endless energy.
She moved to Broadway, and that's where her reputation as a tireless worker truly took shape. In 2002, she joined the original cast of Hairspray. Then came the role that would follow her forever. In 2007, she stepped into Elle Woods' pink shoes for the musical version of Legally Blonde.
She earned a Tony nomination for that work.
But Laura didn't want to be trapped in theater forever. In 2010, she decided it was time to sing country. She signed with Mercury Nashville and released Achin' and Shakin'. The album reached number five on Billboard's country charts. It was a risky move, since Broadway audiences and Nashville fans rarely mix easily.
And the gamble paid off.
The music industry is complicated, and Bundy learned that quickly. Instead of insisting on endless tours, she turned to television in Los Angeles. In 2012, she joined the cast of Anger Management alongside Charlie Sheen. She appeared in 100 episodes of the series as Dr. Jordan Denby.
Not every project was a massive hit. Her run on Hart of Dixie between 2012 and 2015 was low-key. She played Shelby Reed, and although her character had charm, she never became the center of the main storyline.
But she kept working.
In 2015, she released another album, titled Another Piece of Me. Sales didn't match the first one. So she decided to diversify her efforts toward creating her own content.
Over the years, Bundy realized that having creative control was the only way to stop depending on phone calls that never came. In 2020, she launched the podcast Women of Tomorrow, exploring women's rights throughout history. That same year, she released a self-titled album with a much more conceptual and political approach.
In 2022, she appeared in the series The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, playing Rachel Ragland. That same year, she starred in the holiday movie Merry & Gay. In 2023, she appeared in an episode of How I Met Your Father, briefly returning to the comedy style she handles best.
Bundy has maintained a steady level of activity for three decades. In 2024, she focused on directing music videos and developing new scripts for regional theater. The budget of her last independent production in 2023 did not exceed two million dollars.
