Jumanji is a film directed by Joe Johnston and starring Robin Williams. The story begins in 1969, in Brantford, New Hampshire, where Alan Parrish lives, a boy whose parents, Sam and Carol, are wealthy and run Parrish Shoe, the largest company in town. One afternoon, Alan runs away from a group of bullies and takes refuge in his father's shoe factory. There he meets his friend Carl Bentley, who shows him a shoe prototype he designed himself. The boy looks for a place to feel safe from the bullies, and the factory seems to offer one. That refuge is the starting point of the film's opening minutes.
