Synopsis of The Little Mermaid

The series is set when Ariel is fifteen years old, one year before the events of the Disney film. The heroine still lives under the sea with her father, King Triton, and her sisters, and has Sebastian the crab and Flounder the fish as companions. Ariel has close relationships with her friends and family, and each episode revolves around her adventures at the bottom of the ocean. But the kingdom is in danger, because enemies such as the sea witch Ursula plot to harm Triton, his subjects, and those around the little mermaid. Ariel confronts these schemes and foils them. Created by Walt Disney Television and originally aired on CBS, the series stars Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel.

Trivia about The Little Mermaid

Disney had planned a children's show for its cable channel, The Little Mermaid's Island, with puppets from Jim Henson's Creature Shop, but dropped it in favor of a weekly animated series for CBS.
The series drew a lot of media attention, with more than one appearance on Entertainment Tonight, because it was the first based directly on a Disney animated feature film.
The third season was the last one produced, because CBS decided not to buy any more episodes. Before that, the series had aired at 8 a.m. as a lead-in to Aladdin.
The series had a spin-off, Sebastian the Crab, which aired as a segment of the Marsupilami series, starring Sebastian and set away from the sea.
Several journalists highlighted the character of Gabriella, a deaf Black mermaid who appears in the series, after Halle Bailey was cast in the live-action version.
The premiere special "A Whale of a Tale" aired in prime time, but Disney does not officially consider it an episode because it was produced under a separate contract with CBS and only aired once in the United States.
The series received a nomination at the 1993 Annie Awards for Outstanding Achievement in an Animated Television/Broadcast Production.
The character of Gabriella was based on a deaf girl who was a fan of the series and died during the first season, according to the IMDb production profile.
