Sasha Roiz broke into the industry with an advantage few use well: an absolute command of three languages. In 1999, she finished her training at the Guildford School of Acting in England and returned to Montreal to pay her dues in local productions that barely covered the bills. Her Russian heritage and childhood in Canada let her move between European and American styles without anyone being able to pin down her accent.
His imposing physique and natural air of authority soon typecast him in tough-guy or sophisticated villain roles. But the actor preferred to wait for a script with more layers than the usual fare on mainstream television at the turn of the century.
In 2004, she appeared in the film The Day After Tomorrow in a minor role that taught her how big Hollywood budgets worked. She wasn't the lead, but she learned to navigate film sets where time is the most expensive asset in production.
It was the start of a winning streak.
In 2009, he landed the role of Sam Adama on the series Caprica. There, he made a supporting character steal the show thanks to a mix of brutality and sensitivity that caught science fiction audiences off guard. The series didn't last long on air due to low ratings, but critics took permanent notice of him.
The project that changed his bank account and public profile was Grimm in 2011. For six seasons, he played Captain Sean Renard and moved to Portland to keep up with a filming schedule that took up ten months of the year. The show worked because it blended police drama with fantasy horror without taking itself too seriously.
Roiz played his character by steering clear of dramatic excess. In 2014, the producers decided to give his personal storyline more weight to take advantage of his ability to act in several languages and his skill with physical action scenes. He shot a total of 123 episodes before the NBC network ended the story in 2017.
The filming pace was exhausting.
After the series ended, she chose not to immediately take on another long-running project. In 2018, she joined the cast of Taken, and in 2019 she joined the cast of Suits to play Thomas Kessler. It was a smart move to step away from fantasy and prove he could fit into an office legal drama without losing his physical presence.
Entering the 2020s brought a total diversification of her work. In 2020, she began voicing characters in video games and animated series because her vocal control is better than most actors of her generation. She wasn't chasing leading roles but characters with real narrative weight in prestige series such as The Expanse.
In 2023, he joined the cast of The Company You Keep for the ABC network. Although the series was canceled after one season due to production costs, his performance received positive reviews from the Los Angeles trade press. Roiz no longer needed to prove anything to casting directors.
And the gamble paid off.
In 2025, he filmed his role in the second season of The Night Agent for Netflix. Filming took place in various locations in Thailand and Washington under a strict confidentiality agreement that limited his public appearances during that period. The production used Sony Venice 2 cameras to achieve a rawer visual style for the actor's nighttime scenes.
