Scarlett Estevez

The Endless Shoot of a Girl in Los Angeles

Scarlett Estevez was three years old when she filmed her first national commercial for Crate & Barrel. It kicked off a steady run of work that kept her on California sets without the usual breaks child actors often face.

In 2013, she landed her first film role in the short The Magic Bracelet. The production featured names like James Van Der Beek, but it mainly helped comedy casting directors take notice of her speaking rhythm.

The money was in physical comedy.

In 2015, she shot Daddy's Home alongside Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell. She played Megan, the family's daughter, and reprised the role in the 2017 sequel. The franchise grossed more than $400 million at the worldwide box office and made her one of the most profitable young actresses in the industry during that three-year span.

From Fox Demons to the Disney Factory

In 2016, she joined the cast of Lucifer as Trixie Espinoza. There, she shared the set with Tom Ellis for five seasons, and her character was key to humanizing the lead in the early crime storylines.

Her exit from the series was gradual. In 2019, she signed with Disney Channel to join the fourth season of Bunk'd. She played Gwen for 28 episodes but left the show's fictional camp to pursue lead roles.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2021, she starred in the Disney original movie Christmas Again. The script used a time-loop device and required Scarlett to film the same scenes with slight shifts in attitude over several weeks. It was her first major endurance test as a lead actress.

In 2022, she led the cast of Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion, playing a teenager who inherits a magical wrestling mask. The production required combat training coordinated by stunt performers for the fight scenes in the ring.

Numbers and Technique on Set

The superhero series was canceled after its first season of 16 episodes. But Scarlett had already secured her move into young actress roles with the range to carry a storyline of her own, without relying on adult figures.

Nobody gives anything away at the Burbank studios.

In 2018, she voiced the character of Izzy in the animated film The Grinch. The voice work was recorded in isolated booths, and the film went on to gross over $500 million at the box office.

In 2021, filming on her Christmas movie in Chicago wrapped in a production schedule of 30 days. Her contract called for reduced working hours because of her age, plus a specific clause requiring mandatory schooling on set with private tutors.
