When the Mission Ends, Redemption Begins

Extraction is an Australian mercenary who offers his services on the black market. His next job comes from India: Ovi Mahajan, the son of an imprisoned drug lord, has been kidnapped after sneaking out of the house to go to a club with his friends. Saju Rav, a former colonel in the Special Forces of the Indian Army's Parachute Regiment and the boy's protector, visits the father in prison to negotiate. But the kingpin refuses to pay the ransom, because handing over that money would damage his reputation. Tyler then accepts a dangerous mission: to rescue the boy from his kidnappers. Directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth, the film kicks off with this job.

Trivia about Extraction

Dwayne Johnson was linked to star in the film in 2012, when the project was titled City and the Russo brothers were set to direct from a script by Joe Russo.

The official trailer used "In Cold Blood" by English indie rock band Alt-J.

Marko Forker, Lynzi Grant, Craig Wentworth, and Olivier Sarda were nominated at the 19th Visual Effects Society Awards, held on April 6, 2021, in the Outstanding Visual Effects in a Supporting Role category.

In July 2020, Netflix said 99 million households had watched the film in its first four weeks, the highest figure for an original film on the platform.

The film's working title was Daca, later Out of the Fire, and the final title, Extraction, was revealed on February 19, 2020.

The action sequence designed to look like a single continuous shot was filmed in 37 segments over ten days, because the production could not pull it off in one take.

Sam Hargrave lay across the hood of a car to film part of the chase and pass the camera between vehicles; the final sequence joined 36 segments.

Chris Hemsworth said one of the most complex action scenes took two weeks of work and combined about 12 minutes of apparent continuous shots.
