An American legend comes to life.

In London in 1607, a ship of English settlers sets sail for the New World in search of glory and riches. On board is Captain John Smith, who dreams of finding gold and fortune alongside his companions. Meanwhile, in the American lands, Pocahontas, daughter of the Powhatan chief, feels her life has already been decided. Her father arranges her marriage to Kocoum, one of the strongest warriors in the tribe, and she refuses to accept that fate. Directed by Mike Gabriel and Eric Goldberg, the film gives Pocahontas a voice through Irene Bedard, while Mel Gibson provides the voice of John Smith.

Trivia about Pocahontas

Mel Gibson, cast to voice John Smith, also provided the singing voice of his character, which the actor describes as the most difficult part of his role.
After John Candy's death in March 1994, screenwriter Susannah Grant felt the turkey the actor was set to voice was inappropriate, so the animals were reworked to communicate through pantomime.
Pocahontas grossed more than $346 million at the box office and was the fifth-highest-grossing movie of 1995.
Eric Goldberg, the film's co-director, worked for Chuck Jones Productions during production under the pseudonym "Claude Raynes."
