Synopsis of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy

The series is set in Endsville, a fictional town with a gloomy, surreal atmosphere. Billy is a cheerful, not-so-bright 10-year-old boy, and Mandy, his friend, is an expressionless, cynical girl with a cold personality. After cheating in a limbo match to save Billy's sick hamster, they forced Grim, the Grim Reaper, to become their best friend forever. Grim, a Reaper with a Jamaican accent, resists serving them. The kids use their supernatural powers to venture into places like the Underworld, home to monstrous creatures, and to get what they want, often with twisted results. The series airs on Cartoon Network and was created by Maxwell Atoms.

Before creating the series, Atoms pitched Hanna-Barbera an idea called Milkman, about a superhero milk carton. The executives rejected it but became interested in Billy and Mandy.

Billy and Mandy first appeared in a 1995 short that Maxwell Atoms made during his college years, and it was not shown publicly until 2016.
The TV movie "Underfist: Halloween Bash", which aired in 2008, was conceived as the pilot for a spin-off focusing on supporting characters, but Cartoon Network did not approve the spin-off series.
