The Recording Booth as a Destination

Candi Milo stepped into the recording booth in 2001 to replace Christine Cavanaugh as the voice of Dexter. It was a major technical challenge, because fans of the series could not notice the change in the lead character's voice in Dexter's Laboratory. And she pulled it off.

She was born in Palm Springs in 1961, under the direct influence of vaudeville. Her father was Tony Milo, a performer who filled stages and taught her that entertainment is a craft of absolute precision. But her childhood in San Jose was not all laughter. Her father's mental health shaped her worldview and her future philanthropic work away from the spotlight.

Discipline came before fame.

In the 80s, she worked at theme parks such as Disneyland. Those summers of singing and dancing gave her the stamina to endure eight-hour voice recording sessions. Voicing cartoons requires lung capacity that few on-camera actors have in their repertoire.

The Microphone as the Main Stage

Her first major animation contract was Tiny Toon Adventures in 1990. She played Sweetie Bird, and that opened the door to an endless list of supporting roles at Warner. In 1994, she voiced Aladdin for the television version of the film.

She did not limit herself to imitating strange sounds. Candi Milo developed a technique to give humanity to creatures that existed only on the page. That is how she created her performance as Snap in ChalkZone in 2002. It was a job where the comedic rhythm depended entirely on how quickly she processed the lines.

Success is not a technical accident.

In 2004, she took on the dual role of Coco and Madame Foster in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. They were two opposite registers recorded by the same voice in a single session. The industry recognized her ability to carry on conversations with herself without the average viewer ever suspecting the production trick.

Heir to the Legends

Replacing June Foray as the voice of Granny in Looney Tunes in 2017 was her ultimate test in the eyes of critics. Foray was the absolute institution of American voice acting, and Milo inherited the character with almost religious respect for the original tone. But her career did not stop at the usual classics.

In 2021, she took part in Maya and the Three for Netflix. Her voice adapted to the new visual aesthetics of streaming with the same ease she had shown in the old cathode-ray-tube days.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2023, she returned to the world of Steven Spielberg in Tiny Toons Looniversity. She continues to work steadily on The Loud House, voicing characters such as Mayor Davis and Coach Pacowski. Her résumé includes more than 200 official credits in animation and high-budget video game productions.

The SAG-AFTRA union lists her contributions as among the most prolific of her generation of voice actors. In 2024, recording sessions for new seasons of children's series take up most of her daily work schedule. She is based in Los Angeles, where she runs her own voice acting academy.
