Synopsis of Timon and Pumbaa

Timon, a meerkat, and Pumbaa, a warthog, are the stars of this animated series, characters from The Lion King. The two still live by the hakuna matata philosophy, carefree, but they no longer stay in the Pride Lands. They travel the world in search of food, fun, quiet spots for a nap, or valuables. Each scheme takes them to a different setting, from the jungles of Africa to Canada, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom or the United States, and it almost never turns out the way they expected. The series was created by Walt Disney Television Animation and aired on CBS, Disney Channel and Toon Disney. Ernie Sabella and Nathan Lane voice the title characters.

Trivia about Timon and Pumbaa

Gary Krisel, president of Walt Disney Television Animation, considered Timon and Pumbaa the best new comedy team in a long time and thought they could become as classic as Abbott and Costello.
The producers decided not to recreate the film's lyrical tone and gave the series a approach closer to Tex Avery. To choose destinations, the writers made a list of wordplays using country names.
Ernie Sabella continued as Pumbaa throughout the entire series, while Nathan Lane voiced Timon in only ten episodes.
A scene from the episode «Catch Me if You Kenya» was removed from reruns because of the clothing and appearance of a character, which evoked Asian stereotypes.
In 1996, Nathan Lane won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his role as Timon, while Ernie Sabella was nominated in the same category for Pumbaa.
The series won two Daytime Emmys in 1997: one for Outstanding Sound Mixing in a Special Class, and another for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation for the episode «Beethoven’s Whiff».
After leaving the syndicated Disney Afternoon and CBS blocks, the production returned in 1999 on Toon Disney with a fifth season that aired without commercials.
Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella had already co-starred in the 1992 Broadway revival of the musical «Guys and Dolls» before voicing Timon and Pumbaa.
