The story of a lovable charmer who falls in love.

Hal Larson, played by Jack Black, is a man for whom physical beauty is everything. His obsession with how women look outweighs any other quality, and he has no interest in discovering what they're like on the inside. Along with his friend Mauricio Wilson, played by Jason Alexander, he spends his nights in dance clubs trying to approach attractive women, who are almost always out of his league. Both of them are rejected again and again. Directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the movie opens with Hal convinced that his way of choosing a partner is the right one, even though his own nights prove otherwise.

Trivia about Shallow Hal

Gwyneth Paltrow played Rosemary both thin and obese, but close-ups of the obese version below the neck were done by her body double, Ivy Snitzer.

Screenwriter Sean Moynihan is legally blind and drew on Tony Robbins for the script. Earlier versions of the story didn't include Robbins's character but a psychic instead.

The Farrelly brothers unsuccessfully tried to get Garry Shandling to play Mauricio before the role went to Jason Alexander.

After its VHS and DVD release in July 2002, the movie became the highest-grossing pay-per-view title of that year.

Rosemary's prosthetic suit was designed from a body cast of Gwyneth Paltrow. The team spent three months perfecting and building it, although the full outfit weighed about 11 kilos.

Paltrow's prosthetic makeup and wig required more than two hours of daily preparation during the two weeks she shot in the suit.

Jack Black had to lose weight to play Hal, and the role was his first leading part in a film after twenty supporting roles.

The movie grossed 141.1 million dollars worldwide on a 41 million budget and received three nominations at the 2002 Teen Choice Awards.
