Another unforgettable story.

An elderly man visits his grandson, who is sick and in a bad mood. The boy doesn't want to spend the afternoon with his grandfather or listen to a book he finds boring, but the old man ignores his protests and starts reading a novel called The Princess Bride. The movie is directed by Rob Reiner, Peter Falk plays the grandfather, and Fred Savage plays the grandson. The book he reads takes place in a fairy-tale Europe, where Westley, a farm boy, loves Buttercup and is willing to do anything for her. The boy listens reluctantly, and the grandfather promises he'll like the story as the narration gradually breaks through the grandson's objections.

Trivia about The Princess Bride

Mark Knopfler agreed to compose the soundtrack on one condition: that Marty DiBergi's baseball cap, the character he played in This Is Spinal Tap, appear in the film.
André the Giant hesitated to accept the role of Fezzik because the dialogue was in English and he was French, and because he was a professional wrestler, not an actor.
Fox marketed the film as a wacky comedy and released it without a trailer for audiences, even though the studio didn't know how to describe its postmodern narrative.
In one ending scene, Robin Wright was not in André the Giant's arms but suspended by wires.

Quotes by The Princess Bride

  • [repeated line] As you wish.
  • [to Inigo] You're that little Spanish brat I taught a lesson to all those years ago. Simply incredible. Have you been chasing me all this time, only to fail now? I think that's the worst thing I've ever heard of. How marvelous.
  • I always think everything could be a trap...which is why I'm still alive.
  • [after knocking out Fezzik] I don't envy you the headache you'll have when you awake. But, in the meantime, rest well...and dream of large women.
  • [to Buttercup] There is a shortage of perfect breasts in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours.
