Synopsis of Camera Café

An office at a Spanish company is the setting of the series. Its daily life is shown through a hidden camera in the coffee vending machine, which serves as the viewer's point of view. Through it pass the employees who come over for a coffee during work hours to take a break from their tasks. There are 17 celebrities with very different roles: the attractive boss, the anonymous workers, the accounting brainiac and an authoritarian boss who lowers his head when the marketing director raises her voice. Each installment combines several short sketches, with a prologue and an epilogue, and the humor ranges from surreal to the very simple. The series airs on Telecinco and stars Arturo Valls and Carlos Chamarro, among others.

Trivia about Camera Café

The title is a play on the French expression «caméra cachée», meaning hidden camera, and that is where the idea of the camera in the coffee machine comes from.
In the French format, a new episode of about three minutes airs every day, but in Spain four to seven episodes are grouped together, mixing new and repeated episodes, in blocks lasting between 25 and 35 minutes.
The Spanish adaptation changed many of the original characters, dropped some and added others, such as the cleaning lady.
Elena Arnao was the casting director for the series, and Luis Guridi, who directed it from 2005 to 2009, brought in new actors and screenwriters.
In June 2019, a film with the same cast was confirmed, set ten years after the series.
In 2006, the Spanish Actors Union Awards named Daniel Albaladejo best supporting actor and Esperanza Pedreño best supporting actress.
In 2006, the Peñíscola International Comedy Film Festival awarded the series the «Calabuch» prize for best comedy series.
The series reached 530 episodes over four seasons, averaging a 19.5% screen share and 3,619,000 viewers during its run.
