Doña Bárbara

Bárbara Guaimarán is a young mestiza woman who lives aboard a boat with her nanny Eustaquia and her father. The vessel smuggles contraband along the Orinoco River, and the young woman has grown up surrounded by the rough treatment of men. Her father barely pays her any attention, to the point of planning to sell her to a leprous Turk for three hundred gold pesos on an island in the river. Bárbara despises men, whom she considers brutal and lustful, and to get what she wants from them, she turns to the witchcraft she learned from the Indigenous people. Her next target is Lorenzo Barquero, owner of the La Barquereña hacienda, who is going through a rough patch when he meets her. The action takes place on the Venezuelan plains, in the state of Apure, in an undetermined era, and it explores the clash between civilization and barbarism. Edith González, Christian Meier and Génesis Rodríguez lead the cast of this telenovela adapted by Valentina Párraga and aired by Telemundo.
