The project began development in September 2018 with Zero Point Zero Productions, and its producers selected the leads from an initial list of more than 100 scientists and health professionals.

To film an H1N1 flu outbreak in Rajasthan, director Doug Shultz had to wear a face mask while recording doctors and patients in crowded isolation wards.
