Synopsis of Tiger King

Tiger King is a documentary series created by Eric Goode and Rebecca Chaiklin and released by Netflix. It centers on the clash between Carole Baskin, owner of the Big Cat Rescue sanctuary, and Joe Exotic, owner of a private zoo in Oklahoma. Baskin launches a campaign against that zoo. Exotic hits back with an accusation of hypocrisy, claiming that the conditions at her sanctuary are worse than normal. He also links her to the disappearance of Don Lewis, her second husband, a suspicion that shifts the dispute into personal territory. The two accuse each other, and the series observes this feud from within the small, tightly connected world of big cat breeders.

Trivia about Tiger King

In its July 2020 earnings report, Netflix said the first season had been watched by 64 million households in its first month.

At an April press conference about COVID-19, Donald Trump was asked about a possible pardon for Joe Exotic and said he would take a look at it.

Blackfish, another documentary about animals, caused a sharp drop in ticket sales at SeaWorld and ultimately influenced legislation.

PETA acknowledged that the series raised awareness of the problem of big cats in captivity, but pointed out that it overlooked serious animal welfare issues.

The Federal Court in Tampa Bay denied an injunction on November 15, 2021, two days before the second season premiered.

The project changed format several times during development, shifting from documentary to film before ultimately becoming a series. Filming also resumed after the death of Joe Exotic's husband, when the story expanded in scope.

Eric Goode began filming after visiting a Florida animal dealer and finding a snow leopard inside a van subjected to extreme heat.

Netflix premiered the three-episode spin-off «Tiger King: The Doc Antle Story» on December 10, 2021, focusing on Bhagavan "Doc" Antle.
