Synopsis of S.O.Z: Soldiers or Zombies

Alonso Marroquín is a drug trafficker considered a legend in Mexico. After escaping from a high-security Mexican prison with his son Lucas, the two seek refuge in Paradiso, a remote addiction rehabilitation center on the American side of the border. Meanwhile, near the border, the bodies of experimental pigs appear, victims of a failed U.S. military experiment. The animals return to life as mutant zombies. The search for Alonso and Lucas draws other characters into that same border area, where a father and son's flight collides with a much greater threat.

Before being called S.O.Z: Soldiers or Zombies, the series was known as Narcos vs Zombies.

The series is produced by Dynamo and Red Creek, while Rigoberto Castañeda handles directing duties for the series.

Rafael Becerril's character makeup, played by Horacio García Rojas, took about four hours; the crew used sclera lenses and contact lenses that were difficult to tolerate, with an ophthalmologist on set during filming.

The crew moved filming to the Mexican desert of Durango on the recommendation of Rigoberto Castañeda, and stayed there for eight weeks to shoot the series.

The COVID-19 pandemic halted post-production in March 2020, when filming was taking place in Mexico.

Nicolás Entel said he already had a second season in mind, although whether it happens would depend on audience response.

Filming in Durango coincided with the rainy season, and conditions were especially harsh due to the heat and desert storms.
