Synopsis of The Gardener

China Jurado and her son Elmer run a gardening business that, on the surface, is just an ordinary family company. Behind that facade, mother and son are contract killers, and their gardening jobs give them access to their targets without raising suspicion. Elmer has emotional problems, and his mother has turned him into a hitman. Everything changes when he is assigned to eliminate Violeta, an elementary school teacher. Elmer starts to fall in love with her, and that feeling threatens to endanger the family business and the secret they both keep.

Trivia about The Gardener

The series ranked fifth on Netflix's US chart during the week of April 14 to 20, 2025.

Filming took place in Pontevedra, Cambados, Vilagarcía de Arousa, Tomiño, Ribeira, Toledo and Madrid.

Netflix announced on December 19, 2023 that the series was in development, created by Miguel Sáez Carral.

Since its release, the series has amassed 37.1 million views and more than 173 million hours viewed, figures that make it Netflix Spain's most-watched original production.

"The Gardener" ranks #42 on Netflix's 50 global top list by views and #96 on the 100 top list by hours viewed, despite running less than five hours in total.

The story was conceived from the start as a self-contained miniseries, so there are no plans to expand the narrative, and Netflix has not announced a second season.

At Praza da Ferrería in Pontevedra, a house on the corner with Rúa dos Soportais was transformed into the Loto Yoga meditation center for the show.
