Adria Arjona

Adria Arjona waited tables in New York while studying at the Lee Strasberg Institute. She knew that her father's last name, musician Ricardo Arjona, wouldn't open casting directors' doors in Manhattan. She spent her childhood on planes and in hotels across Latin America, but her professional training was forged between failed auditions and night shifts in the hospitality industry.

In 2012, she decided her place was in front of the camera, not backstage on music tours. She started with brief roles in short films and minor TV series. Her mindset was that of a working professional in show business.

In 2014, she landed her first real break on the series Unforgettable. It was a one-episode job, but it got Los Angeles agents to start noting her name. Shortly after, she appeared in Person of Interest, where she played Dani Silva across a two-episode arc.

The Leap to the Concrete Block

In 2015, her luck turned when HBO cast her for the second season of True Detective. Playing Emily, the partner of Taylor Kitsch's character, gave her immediate international visibility. The shoot was grueling, and the network's high standards forced her to adjust her acting technique at breakneck speed.

And the gamble paid off.

In 2017, she took on the role of Dorothy Gale in Emerald City, a dark, modernized version of The Wizard of Oz. The series was not renewed for a second season, but Arjona had already shown she could carry the weight of a big-budget production on her shoulders. Still, big-scale commercial film had not yet knocked on her door in earnest.

In 2018, she joined the cast of Pacific Rim: Uprising. In this science fiction sequel, she played Jules Reyes and got familiar with motion capture technology and green screens. It was her first taste of the Hollywood studio machine in its most industrial form.

In 2019, she starred in 6 Underground under the direction of Michael Bay. The movie had a budget of $150 million and placed her alongside Ryan Reynolds in a frenetic action plot. Arjona played a combat-trained doctor, a role that required intense physical training for weeks on location in Italy and the United Arab Emirates.

That shoot was a masterclass in film logistics.

Maturity in Front of the Camera

In 2022, her career took a more balanced direction between spectacle and author-driven storytelling. She joined Andor, the Star Wars franchise series that moved away from lightsabers to focus on political thriller. Her character, Bix Caleen, brought a layer of gritty realism and humanity to a saga often criticized for feeling artificial.

In 2023, she premiered Hit Man at the Venice Film Festival. Working with director Richard Linklater marked a shift from her usual acting style. In this film, she plays Madison Masters, a woman trying to escape an abusive relationship who ends up involved with a fake hitman. Critics praised her chemistry with Glen Powell and her ability to handle dark humor.

In 2024, she joined the cast of Blink Twice, the directorial debut of Zoë Kravitz. This psychological thriller shot in Mexico explored complex power dynamics and demanded a level of vulnerability from the actress that she had not shown in her earlier action projects. Arjona is now looking for roles with more silences than lines of dialogue.

Her script selection process became much stricter after she turned thirty. She prefers shoots where the director allows controlled improvisation and rehearsal beforehand.

In 2024, she founded her own production company to manage her creative interests and develop stories that don't depend exclusively on major studios. The first project under this label entered pre-production with external funding of $5 million.
