Dawn Olivieri

Dawn Olivieri didn't ask permission to enter the industry. She started out as a model in Milan and Paris before realizing her place was in front of a film camera, but with a script in hand. Her first real break came with her voice, dubbing Pepper Potts in the animated series The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in 2010.

In 2009, she became unforgettable to science fiction fans thanks to Heroes. That Lydia, with skin covered in drawings that predicted the future, was her first taste of mass recognition. But the change of pace came shortly after.

It was a matter of instinct.

She played Monica Talbot in House of Lies between 2012 and 2016. There she went head to head with Don Cheadle in a corporate consulting war where her character had no scruples. She filmed 41 episodes of a series that dissected savage capitalism from the inside.

The Desert and the Blood of Taylor Sheridan

Few actors get a creator to write two different characters in the same narrative universe. Olivieri did it with Taylor Sheridan. In 2021, she played Claire Dutton in 1883, a bitter, puritanical woman whose run was short but made a strong impact thanks to her harshness.

Sheridan called her back months later.

In 2022, she joined Yellowstone to bring Sarah Atwood to life. She went from nineteenth-century poverty to designer suits and political conspiracies in contemporary Montana. She is a corporate villain who doesn't need guns because she uses laws and blackmail to destroy her enemies.

Her screen presence relies on an icy stare she has refined over the years. She doesn't need big physical gestures to dominate a scene opposite actors of the caliber of Kevin Costner. Her career can't be understood without that ability to move between genres without missing a beat.

Between orcs and bank robbers

Action films have also been a regular haven for her. In 2017, she appeared in Bright alongside Will Smith, a Netflix blockbuster that cost $90 million. She played the protagonist's wife in a Los Angeles inhabited by fantasy creatures.

A year later, in 2018, she appeared in Den of Thieves. She worked with Gerard Butler in a heist thriller that grossed over $80 million worldwide. Her role was brief but helped humanize the chaos of an obsessive cop living on the edge of collapse.

And the bet on realism paid off.

Olivieri lives on a farm and personally takes care of her animals when she isn't on a film set. In 2023, her involvement in new projects for the Dutton franchise was confirmed. The contract included strict confidentiality clauses about the fate of her character in the show's fifth season.
