Ian Bohen was born in Carmel and grew up under the California spotlight. His real debut came in 1994 when Lawrence Kasdan cast him as the young Wyatt Earp. That film ran three hours and earned only $25 million at the box office.
It was an early reality check for a rising actor. But Hollywood is fickle, and Bohen found a safe haven on television in the late nineties.
He played the young Hercules between 1997 and 1998. That New Zealand production (shot under extreme physical conditions) taught him the pace of action series before the genre became prestigious.
The supporting actor market demands patience.
In 2011, his face became familiar to a new generation thanks to Teen Wolf. Peter Hale wasn't the lead, but his ability to inhabit the gray areas of morality kept him alive for six seasons.
Bohen filmed the final episode of the original series in 2017. He did so knowing that his relationship with creator Jeff Davis would let him return to that universe years later.
Persistence is an undervalued quality in Hollywood.
His change of pace came in 2018 with the premiere of Yellowstone. Taylor Sheridan was cast as Ryan, and this time the setting was a vast ranch surrounded by political conflict.
Filming in Utah and Montana demanded a different kind of physicality. Bohen had to learn to ride horses and fit into a cast led once again by Kevin Costner.
In 2023, he reprised his best-known role in Teen Wolf: The Movie. The film premiered directly on digital platforms and wrapped up storylines that had been left open since the previous decade.
Few people know that Bohen also writes and directs. In 2011, he presented the short film Morning Love, showing that his interest in storytelling goes beyond acting.
His involvement in the fifth season of Yellowstone during 2024 posed a logistical challenge due to the writers' strikes in the United States. As a result, the production schedule ran longer than originally planned.
The actor prefers roles that demand silence.
In 2024, the series reached an audience of millions of viewers worldwide. Bohen wrapped his scenes at the Dutton ranch after a twelve-hour day under the sun in Montana.
