Reiko Aylesworth was never going to be Michelle Dessler. In 2001, she auditioned for the series 24 to play the traitor Nina Myers, but producers preferred her restraint for a different role. That initial rejection ended up placing her at the center of one of the most-watched espionage plotlines on global television.
And the gamble paid off.
Aylesworth was born in Chicago in 1972 and has a genetic mix that includes Dutch, Welsh and Japanese roots. Before stepping onto a Los Angeles set, she spent years on New York's Off-Broadway stages. That theater background explains why she never needs to overact to fill the frame.
During the seasons aired between 2002 and 2006, their character in the Counter Terrorist Unit gained unexpected weight. Audiences connected with that technical coldness that hid absolute vulnerability. **Their death in the first episode of season five** triggered one of the biggest waves of fan complaints on the forums of the time.
But Hollywood doesn't always know what to do with an actress who doesn't seek media attention. In 2007, she starred in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, a pure action film that moved her away from procedural drama. It was a risky choice that critics didn't receive with enthusiasm.
Despite the ups and downs in film, her face became indispensable to television casting directors. In 2009, she joined the cast of Lost to play Amy Goodspeed across a three-episode arc. That foray into the Dharma Initiative let her explore a calmer (and more mysterious) register, far from the explosions of her earlier work.
That's because Aylesworth prefers supporting roles that hold the structure together over empty spotlight time.
So she accepted roles in Hawaii Five-0, CSI and Elementary. In all of these productions, she applied the same work ethic she learned in theater. **She signed contracts for more than 60 episodes** across all her network television appearances between 2010 and 2020.
In 2019, they joined the cast of Bull and shortly after appeared in the series The Good Fight. Their ability to fit into ensemble casts has kept them working nonstop. In 2024, they filmed their role in the mystery series Death and Other Details, playing Katherine Collier.
The industry values her technical reliability.
She doesn't give many interviews or use her social media to share personal details. She prefers her name to appear in the closing credits without making a fuss. In 2025, her participation in an animated voice-dubbing project was confirmed, expanding her usual range into character voices.
Filming for their most recent television appearance in Vancouver lasted exactly fourteen calendar days.
