The fear of what lies inside.

Lena is a cellular biology professor and a former soldier in the United States Army. We see her seated across from interrogators, and as she answers their questions she revisits the expedition she took part in. It all began when her husband disappeared during a secret mission. Lena decides to join a group of scientists heading into a zone sealed off by the U.S. government, known as the Shimmer. Directed by Alex Garland and starring Natalie Portman, the film blends the interrogation with the protagonist's memories. The team reaches an area where the laws they know stop working, and their mission is to find out what happens inside.

Trivia about Onslaught

After a poorly received test screening, David Ellison of Skydance demanded changes because he feared the film was too intellectual and complicated. Producer Scott Rudin refused to accept them.

Netflix distributed the film outside the United States, Canada and China under a deal with Paramount that allowed it to start streaming it 17 days after its theatrical release.

The film earned $43.1 million worldwide, against a production budget of between $40 and $55 million.

Filming was attempted in Florida, but the area's vegetation was so dense that it didn't convey the sense of vastness the film was after, so the idea was dropped.

Gina Rodriguez joined the cast when filming was scheduled for early 2016, so the movie would be shot during Rodriguez's break from Jane the Virgin.

Former president Barack Obama included Annihilation among his favorite films of 2018 in his annual list of songs, books and movies.

Although the story is set in the United States, "Onslaught" was filmed entirely in the United Kingdom, with locations such as Windsor Great Park, a former air base in Buckinghamshire, and Holkham Beach in Norfolk.

To shoot scenes with creatures, the crew placed physical versions of the animals and beings on set, which made lighting and composition easier, though they later had to be digitally removed.
