All Roads Lead Here

The El Royale is a faded hotel straddling the California-Nevada border near Lake Tahoe that lost its gambling license years ago. It's a night in the late 1960s, and guests arrive one by one, each with a story they're not telling. None of them seem to be who they say they are. The building, with its silent hallways and brightly colored rooms, hides more than one secret, and everyone tries to stay under the radar as suspicious glances pile up. Directed by Drew Goddard, the film brings together Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson and Jon Hamm in an ensemble cast where everyone is trying to hide something.

Trivia about Bad Times at the El Royale

The hotel was built almost entirely on a set at Mammoth Studios in Burnaby, a 5,600-square-meter space with a 930-square-meter replica of the El Royale. The crew couldn't find a real location with perfect symmetry.
Planning the one-take shot in which Hamm's character discovers the hotel's secret hallway took eight months. Erivo sang live during the five-minute continuous take.
Russell Crowe signed on to star in the film but withdrew shortly before filming began. Jon Hamm was approached during the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and had two days to read the script.
Beyoncé and Tom Holland were among the actors considered for the lead roles before Cailee Spaeny was confirmed in August 2017.
