A Film by Larry Charles

Brüno Gehard is an Austrian, gay fashion reporter who hosts the show Funkyzeit mit Brüno. After bursting into a Milan Fashion Week runway show, he is fired from his own program. His lover, Diesel, also leaves him for another man, and Brüno is left without a job or a partner. Determined to revive his career, he sets off for the United States with Lutz, his assistant's assistant, aiming to become a Hollywood celebrity. Directed by Larry Charles and starring Sacha Baron Cohen, the film takes the form of a mockumentary to follow that journey.

Trivia about Brüno

At the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, Brüno's fall onto Eminem looked like an accident, but the two had rehearsed it beforehand to make sure it went off well.

Universal Pictures acquired the rights to the film in 2006 after a fierce bidding war and paid 42.5 million dollars for distribution in the United States and parts of overseas.

Following the death of Michael Jackson, a scene was cut from the U.S. theatrical version just days before its Hollywood premiere that same night.

In Fort Smith, Arkansas, the crowd at a supposed one-dollar-beer cage fight started throwing chairs and beer at the performers when they began kissing and stripping.

The production team tricked presidential pre-candidate Ron Paul into interviewing with them as an Austrian journalist; as soon as Brüno pulled down his pants, the congressman walked out of the room.

Sacha Baron Cohen spent almost the entire six-month shoot inside the production trailer because he feared Brüno's disguise would be too recognizable.

The film grossed 138,805,831 dollars worldwide: 60,054,530 in the United States and Canada, and 78,751,301 in other markets.

In Australia, the uncut version was initially rated R18+, and then a few seconds were trimmed to earn an MA15+ rating.
