At the end of the 19th century, Dorian Gray, a strikingly handsome young man who has spent a lonely adolescence in the countryside, arrives in London to take possession of a mansion he has just inherited. Naive and unaccustomed to city life, he is swept up in the social whirlwind introduced by Lord Henry Wotton, a charismatic man who opens the doors to the city's most sordid venues. Directed by Oliver Parker, the film follows Dorian's first steps, played by Ben Barnes, as he discovers a world of limitless pleasure. His friend, the painter Basil Hallward, played by Ben Chaplin, wants to paint his portrait to capture his beauty, and the young man begins to see himself in a new light.
