In 2041, humans coexist with mechanical beings. Álex, a renowned cybernetics engineer, returns to Santa Irene, his snowy hometown, after ten years away. He comes back with a specific assignment from the Faculty of Robotics, led by his former mentor, Julia: to complete project SI-9, a robot boy designed to imitate human emotions. The job forces him to reconnect with a family with whom he has unresolved issues. Waiting for him there are his brother David and Lana, his former partner, who has rebuilt her life. Álex will have to face these tensions while trying to push forward a project that puts him at odds with his own understanding of feelings. Directed by Kike Maíllo, the movie stars Daniel Brühl as Álex.

At the 26th Goya Awards, Eva won three of the twelve categories in which it was nominated: Best New Director, Best Supporting Actor and Best Special Effects.

Interior scenes were filmed in the province of Barcelona, with exterior shots in Panticosa (Huesca) and La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

The film blends computer-generated images of robots with retro costumes and props, such as a 900 Saab car.

Critic Miguel Juan Payán, from Acción Cine, compared the movie to classics such as Frankenstein, Metropolis, Blade Runner and A.I. Artificial Intelligence.

Filming lasted eleven weeks and the production had a budget of 4.5 million euros; in addition, versions were shot in Castilian Spanish and Catalan due to funding from Catalan institutions.

To find Claudia Vega, more than 3,000 girls were auditioned, according to Kike Maíllo during the movie's presentation.

Daniel Brühl admitted that at first they had prejudices against a Spanish science fiction film, and those doubts lingered during part of the shoot.

Lluís Homar prepared the household robot Max through mime gestures and many hours of rehearsal to create a specific physical language.
