Champions aren't born, they're built

In Texas, in the near future, boxing is no longer practiced by humans. Matches are fought by humanoid robots designed for combat. Charlie Kenton, played by Hugh Jackman, was once a boxer who came close to success, but now he makes a living as a low-profile fight promoter. His main asset is Ambush, an old but still sturdy fighting robot, which is still the only thing that allows him to compete. Charlie has made a bet with Ricky, a promoter and carnival owner, that Ambush will win his next fight. The problem is that he doesn't have the money to cover the bet. The film is directed by Shawn Levy.

Trivia about Real Steel

Legacy Effects, the successor to Stan Winston Studios, turned Tom Meyer's designs into practical animatronic creatures. According to its head, a total of 26 and a half robots were built for the film.
Sugar Ray Leonard served as fight choreography consultant and gave boxing lessons to Hugh Jackman. The goal was to make the actor's movements look more natural.
The computer-generated robot fights were created using motion-capture technology previously used on Avatar, which made it possible to see the fights in real time.
Hugh Jackman was cast in the lead role in November for a fee of $9 million, according to production reports from the film's early stages.
