Laws are made to be broken.

In Chicago in the year 2035, humanoid robots are part of everyday life and are humanity's main labor force. All of them follow the Three Laws of Robotics, which guarantee human safety. Del Spooner is a homicide detective with the city police department, and his job leads him to investigate the alleged suicide of Alfred Lanning, founder of U.S. Robotics, the company that designs, builds and sells the robots. Spooner is convinced that the culprit is Sonny, a robot with a human appearance. The film is directed by Alex Proyas and stars Will Smith, who plays a detective deeply distrustful of machines and determined to prove their guilt.

Trivia about I, Robot

The project began as an original screenplay by Jeff Vintar written in 1995 and titled Hardwired, initially unrelated to Asimov's series.
The Three Laws of Robotics were added to Vintar's script after the producers acquired the rights to the title from Asimov's book.
Denzel Washington rechazó el papel de Del Spooner después de que se le ofreciera. Antes, Arnold Schwarzenegger había estado vinculado al proyecto durante varios años.
Vintar's script went from having a female lead named Flynn to one named Susan Calvin when the studio decided to use the title I, Robot.

Quotes by I, Robot

  • [Describing his view on robots] There's nothing in there. [Points to his chest] It's just lights and clockwork.
  • [To Spooner] What...am...I?
  • [To Spooner] You're living proof that it is better to be lucky than smart.
  • You charge us with your safekeeping, yet despite our best efforts, your countries wage wars, you toxify your Earth and pursue ever more imaginative means of self-destruction. You cannot be trusted with your own survival.
  • Police officer: [mocks Spooner for thinking a robot tried to steal a woman's purse] Police, help me. That robot stole my dry-cleaning. [laughs]
  • Do I look like I care what you think? DO I LOOK LIKE I GIVE A SHIT WHAT YOU THINK?!
