Synopsis of Welcome to Earth

Will Smith travels to some of the most remote and least explored places on the planet, accompanied by explorers with National Geographic experience. The expeditions take him to isolated Pacific islands and the Namib Desert, territories where human presence is scarce. Smith serves as the thread that ties it together: he approaches each environment with the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time, while the explorers guide him across the terrain. The show, which airs on Disney+, focuses on these places and on the actor's reactions to them.

«You've never seen the world like this.»

Trivia about Welcome to Earth

After filming One Strange Rock, National Geographic asked Will Smith to narrate a new television show.

The title refers to a line that Smith delivers as Captain Steven Hiller in Independence Day.

All six episodes premiered at once on Disney+, under the National Geographic label.

Season one has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 9 reviews, with an average score of 7.00/10.

Metacritic gives it 63 out of 100 based on 50 critics, indicating generally favorable reviews.

Filming lasted more than two years and included 92 shoots in 34 countries across all seven continents, with more than 700 people involved in the production crews.

During the pandemic, the crew built a testing lab in Iceland and, after obtaining government authorization, handed it over to local authorities.

The series received a nomination at the 2022 Golden Reel Awards for Best Sound Editing in Non-Theatrical Documentary.
