In the near future, people undergo cybernetic enhancements that boost their vision, strength, and intelligence. The megacorporation Hanka Robotics is secretly developing an artificial body, called a "shell," capable of housing a human brain instead of an artificial intelligence. Mira Killian is the sole survivor of a cyberterrorist attack that killed her parents. When her body is damaged beyond repair, she is chosen as a test subject for the project. Rupert Sanders directs the film, and Scarlett Johansson plays Mira in an ultramodern city, in a future where the line between humans and robots blurs.
