In 1944, during World War II, eight-year-old Hannibal Lecter lives with his family at Lecter Castle in Lithuania. The Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union has turned the Baltic region into one of the bloodiest fronts of the conflict, and the house is no longer safe. His parents decide to move the two children to the family's hunting cabin in the forest, hoping to avoid the German troops advancing through the area. Peter Webber directs the film, and Gaspard Ulliel plays the lead in his younger version. The journey to the forest refuge is the first step in an escape that soon becomes complicated, and young Hannibal, together with his sister Mischa, begins to realize that the war has reached his front door.
