A Film by Pedro Almodóvar

Julieta lives in Madrid, in the building where she raised her daughter Antía, and is about to leave the city to move to Portugal with her partner, Lorenzo. A chance encounter on the street with Bea, an old friend of Antía, takes her by surprise. She hasn't heard anything from her daughter in years, and Bea tells her that Antía lives far from Spain and has three children. The news leaves her stunned. Julieta wants to reconnect with Antía and wonders whether her move is still possible. Emma Suárez plays the older Julieta and Adriana Ugarte the younger one, in a movie written and directed by Pedro Almodóvar.

Trivia about Julieta

Almodóvar considered Meryl Streep for the lead role, which would be his English-language debut, playing the protagonist at ages 20, 40, and 60.
Almodóvar explained that he didn't trust makeup to age the character, and that an actress who is 25 years old can't convey the presence of one who is 50.
The working title was Silencio, but the director changed it to Julieta in post-production so it wouldn't be confused with the Martin Scorsese movie from the same year.
Almodóvar wanted a dry film, without tears, although he admitted that he adores melodrama and that this genre seems noble to him.
