Bryan Stevenson has just graduated from Harvard and arrives in Alabama with a clear goal: to defend poor people who cannot afford proper legal representation. In Montgomery, the state capital, he teams up with activist Eva Ansley and launches an organization dedicated to fighting injustices in criminal law. Soon he takes on the case of Walter McMillian, a man imprisoned for murder even though the evidence points to his innocence. Bryan decides to take the case and begins reviewing a file full of contradictions. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film follows Bryan, played by Michael B. Jordan, as he tries to make his way in a hostile environment.
