In 1928, English magician Stanley performs at a Berlin theater with an illusion act in which he poses as Wei Ling Soo, a celebrity who hides his true identity behind a disguise. In his dressing room, he is visited by Howard Burkan, an old friend and fellow magician. Stanley is a nihilistic, cynical and rational man who makes it his mission to expose those who pose as mediums. His goal is to prove that there is nothing beyond death and that everything has a logical explanation. The story is set on the French Riviera in the 1920s, during the golden age of jazz. The film is written and directed by Woody Allen, Colin Firth plays the lead, and Emma Stone stars as the medium who becomes the focus of his next investigation.
