Hardborough is a quiet coastal town in Suffolk, in England in the late 1950s. There lives Florence Green, a war widow who decides to fulfill the dream she shared with her late husband: opening a bookshop. To do so, she takes over the Old House, a damp, abandoned building that has been empty for years. From the start, Florence runs into the polite resistance of the neighbors, and above all into Violet Gamart, a lady who rules the town from her position of privilege. The film, directed by Isabel Coixet, stars Emily Mortimer in the lead role.
