A family, a first love, a second chance

After her parents' divorce, seventeen-year-old Ronnie Miller leaves New York to spend the summer in a small coastal town in the American South. There her father, Steve, is waiting for her, though the two haven't spoken in a long time. Ronnie arrives with a rebellious, defiant attitude and has no intention of adjusting to the house or its new routine. Steve tries to reach her through music, the passion they once shared, but his daughter has set aside the piano she has played since childhood. Directed by Julie Anne Robinson, the movie stars Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth and Greg Kinnear, and centers on the clash between a teenager who doesn't want to be there and a father willing to try.

Trivia about The Last Song

The story was originally set in North Carolina, as in the novel, but it was moved to Georgia after months of campaigning by the states competing to host the shoot.
The Miller family home has two floors and six bedrooms, and it was built in 1918 by the owner's great-grandfather, using largely unpainted pine.
The turtle nest scene was filmed during the first week of August and featured 26 live loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings.
Sparks first named the lead character Kirby and then Hilary, names the audience barely knows before the character became Ronnie.

Quotes by The Last Song

  • Truth only means something when it's hard to admit! Don't you get that?
  • Sometimes you have to be apart from the people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes it makes you love them more.
  • We're not perfect, any of us. We make mistakes, we screw up but then we forgive and move forward.
  • [to Steve] Are you gonna say goodbye, because I really don't wanna hear it.
  • It's what I do mom. I push people away.
  • [in letter to Ronnie] Love is fragile. And we're not always its best caretakers. We just muddle through and do the best we can. And hope this fragile thing survives against all odds.
