In Paris, in 1974, Philippe Petit makes a living as a street performer, juggling and walking on wire, much to the disapproval of his father, who doesn't approve of the trade. During one performance, he bites a hard candy thrown to him by a spectator and chips a tooth. While waiting in the dentist's office, he flips through a magazine and finds an image of the Twin Towers in New York. He studies it closely and begins to imagine an seemingly impossible feat: walking on a wire stretched between the two towers. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film follows Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role of this French tightrope walker, who begins to shape his plan.
