Synopsis of Roseanne

Roseanne Conner works on the assembly line at Wellman Plastics, in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois. Her husband, Dan, picks up occasional construction jobs, and together they raise their three kids: Becky, Darlene and D.J. Living on meager wages, the family lives on Delaware Street and struggles to make ends meet every month. Her sister Jackie and her friend Crystal work with her at the factory. Created by Matt Williams and aired on ABC, the show follows the Conners, a working-class family starring Roseanne Barr and John Goodman. Both parents go to work every day, while the kids navigate the changes of adolescence as the household runs short on money.

Trivia about Roseanne

Werner suggested casting Roseanne Barr, whom they had seen on The Tonight Show, and reached out to her agent to offer her the role.

In 1993 it was revealed that Barr referred to each of her 19 writers by a number instead of their name.

In its second season, the show took the No. 1 spot in the Nielsen ratings, narrowly beating The Cosby Show.

The show earned 27 Emmy nominations but never received a nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series despite its critical and audience success.

Under the Writers Guild of America rules, only the writer of the pilot episode can receive series creator credit, which is why Matt Williams is listed as the sole creator.

The Conner family home sets were rebuilt on the same soundstage where the show was filmed during its original run.

The rerun of 2018 reached 27.3 million viewers across live and delayed viewing within seven days, but ABC canceled it two months after renewing it, following Roseanne Barr's racist post about Valerie Jarrett.

In June 2018, ABC ordered ten episodes of "The Conners," a spin-off without Barr that brought back the rest of the rerun's main cast.
