Synopsis of 3rd Rock from the Sun

Four aliens arrive on Earth with a clear mission: to observe human beings from the inside. To do so, they pose as an ordinary family in Rutherford, a fictional town in Ohio located 84 kilometers from Cleveland, where they live in an attic apartment. Dick Solomon, the expedition's commander, plays the head of the household and teaches physics at Pendleton State University. Tommy takes over the body of a teenager and has to enroll in high school, while security officer Sally and communications officer Harry try to fit in as a typical human family. The series thrives on the clash between how these beings understand the world and the customs they try to imitate. Created by Bonnie and Terry Turner, it airs on NBC and stars John Lithgow as the lead.

Trivia about 3rd Rock from the Sun

The series was the first to bring European humor into its scripts, which was unusual for American audiences of the time.
The opening theme song was composed by Ben Vaughn, an instrumental rock and roll piece in a 1950 style.
In 1997, the series won more Primetime Emmy Awards than any other television series, with five wins out of eight nominations.
John Lithgow was nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series every year the show aired, and won it in 1996, 1997 and 1999.
In Spain, the series originally aired on Antena 3, premiering on March 30, 1998, and later on Cuatro's morning schedule.
The series premiered three years after the movie Coneheads, also written by the Turners, with a similar premise.
NBC moved "3rd Rock from the Sun" to a different time slot 18 times during its six seasons, an instability that contributed to its declining ratings and its cancellation in 2001.
Before reaching NBC, the series was turned down by another network. ABC passed on it after demanding cast changes and failing to find a suitable time slot, while a clause in John Lithgow's contract allowed the project to be offered to another network.
