When he is at his most vulnerable, he is at his most dangerous.

In 1945, Logan is held in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp near Nagasaki. He appears as just another prisoner, and what is at stake in the opening scenes is the fate of an enemy officer. During the atomic bombing of the city, Logan rescues Ichirō Yashida and shields him from the blast. In those few seconds his only goal is to keep himself between the officer and the explosion, using his own body as a shield. The film, directed by James Mangold and starring Hugh Jackman, opens with this episode, which marks the character's starting point in the story and sets the tone for what follows.

Trivia about The Wolverine

The production budget was 120 million dollars, and principal photography began on July 30, 2012.
The Silver Samurai was created from a 3D-printed, chrome-plated figure, and its movements were performed by stunt specialist Shane Rangi, who wore a motion-capture suit on stilts.
The mid-credits scene was written by Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg, screenwriters of X-Men: Days of Future Past, to reintroduce Patrick Stewart into the universe.
Jackman ate six meals a day to prepare for the role and asked Dwayne Johnson for advice on building muscle mass.
