In 1881, the discovery of silver mines has turned Tombstone, a dusty town in southeastern Arizona, into a magnet for fortune seekers. Wyatt Earp arrives with his brothers Virgil and Morgan, drawn by the promise of prosperity. Wyatt has left his badge and gun behind to live a quiet life, but the town's atmosphere, full of gamblers, gunmen and gangs who enforce their own law in the streets, puts that resolve to the test. Traveling with him is his friend Doc Holliday, a former Southern gentleman turned gambler and gunslinger, who observes the scene with dry irony. The newcomers find a town where any conversation can end in gunfire, and they must decide what role they will play in it.

Trivia about Tombstone

Kevin Costner was going to play Wyatt Earp, but left the project to shoot Wyatt Earp (1993), and the role went to Kurt Russell.

A month before filming began, producer Andrew Vajna fired Kevin Jarre, the screenwriter and original director, and replaced him with George P. Cosmatos.

Russell claims that he, not Cosmatos, was the one who actually directed the movie, even though Cosmatos was credited as director.

All the mustaches in the movie were real except that of Sheriff Behan, played by Jon Tenney, who had to shave for an earlier project.

The movie ranks number 20 among the films released in 1993 by domestic box office in the United States and Canada, with 56,505,065 dollars.

True West magazine included it among the five greatest Western movies ever made.

Bruce Broughton's score was performed by the Sinfonia of London, and David Snell conducted most of it, because union issues forced a change of conductor.

The entire movie was shot on location in Tucson and its surroundings, including Old Tucson Studios and the Mescal movie town, located 64 kilometers south of the city.
