Synopsis of Cowboy Bebop

In 2071, the solar system is crawling with criminals who are worth a bounty on their heads. Spike Spiegel, born on Mars and with a history of street violence, makes a living as a bounty hunter alongside Jet Black, a former solar system police detective who lost an arm during an investigation. Both share the Bebop ship with Faye Valentine, a woman drowning in debt from her gambling who woke up with no memory after leaving cryogenic sleep. The three take on any job that pays and chase targets across the galaxy, while the ship barely stays afloat. Created by Christopher Yost, the series premieres on Netflix with John Cho as Spike.

Trivia about Cowboy Bebop

A knee injury suffered by John Cho in October 2019 delayed production by about eight months, and that buffer allowed elements planned for the second season to be moved up into the first.

Cowboy Bebop hit No. 10 on Netflix with nearly 74 million hours viewed worldwide, but viewership dropped 59 percent the following week.

The opening sequence recreates the anime's, set to the song "Tank!" and featuring live-action recreations of the original, and took three days to shoot.

Shinichirō Watanabe, director of the original anime, served as a consultant on the series and provided early concept art as a reference for the team.

Filming took place at 185 locations in Auckland, New Zealand, between July 2019 and March 2021. Auckland was chosen because its urban landscape matched the series' grittier aesthetic, according to production manager Clayton Tikao.

John Cho didn't accept the role until he was assured that Yoko Kanno would compose the music, because the series could not move forward without her.

The cast trained first with the stunt team 87eleven Action Design and then with New Zealand coordinator Allan Poppleton, of Cunning Stunts.

Netflix canceled the series after just one season, less than three weeks after its ten episodes premiered, so there will be no second season on the platform.
