Katrina Law was born in Philadelphia and grew up in South Jersey in an environment that had little to do with the Hollywood spotlight. Her mother was from Taiwan and her father was an American soldier with German and Italian roots. That mix of genetics and culture shaped a look that the industry took some time to categorize.
Before the cameras came dance and karate. She earned her black belt as a teenager, and that physical foundation allowed her to avoid using stunt doubles for much of her later career. In 2010, her professional life changed when she joined the cast of Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
She played Mira (a slave who ends up joining the rebellion) and had to shoot in extreme physical conditions on the sets in New Zealand. But the toughness of the shoot did not stop her. Law understood that her niche was not in romantic drama but in pure, hardcore action.
Television demanded blood, and Law knew how to draw it.
In 2014, she entered the DC Comics universe through the series Arrow. There she brought Nyssa al Ghul to life, the daughter of the leader of the League of Assassins. She played this role on a recurring basis until 2020, bringing a technical coolness to the fight scenes that few actors on the show could match. Her character was one of the few that maintained solid narrative consistency over several seasons.
Real stability in the American industry is measured by the number of episodes shot per season. In 2019, she joined the main cast of Hawaii Five-0 to play Quinn Liu. It was a bet by the CBS network to refresh the series in its tenth season, and the gamble paid off in terms of ratings.
The uniform suited her well.
After the Hawaiian franchise ended in 2020, she didn't spend much time out of work. In 2021, she joined the cast of NCIS as Special Agent Jessica Knight. Stepping into the shoes of veteran characters on a series that has run for more than twenty seasons is a high-risk task. But Law avoided the fuss and focused on an investigator profile with a strong capacity for hand-to-hand combat.
Her presence on mainstream television is complemented by lower-budget independent projects. In 2015, she starred in Death Valley, and in 2017 she took part in the series Training Day. The latter was a troubled production due to the untimely death of its lead, Bill Paxton, which led to its cancellation after thirteen episodes.
Law married actor Keith Andreen in 2013 and had her first daughter in 2018. She keeps a very private life (far from the usual scandals of Los Angeles). Her net worth is estimated at around $2 million thanks to her protected contracts with the major broadcast networks.
In 2024, she shot the action film Mafia Wars in Italy under director Scott Windhauser. Filming took place mainly on location in Rome with a crew of sixty people.
