Yorkshire, England, 1954. On a egg farm that functions like a prison camp, a group of hens lives under the constant watch of the Tweedys, a grumpy farming couple. She runs the household, and he simply obeys her. Hens that stop laying eggs end up slaughtered and served at the dinner table, a fate the rest of the flock accepts as unavoidable. Ginger, a fearless and determined hen, refuses to give in and sets out to lead her companions to freedom. Every escape plan she organizes fails, and the hens return to the coop as the Tweedys' pressure grows. The movie is directed by Peter Lord and Nick Park, with voices by Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson.

Trivia about Chicken Run

During production, 30 sets and 80 animators were used, with each animator filming about one minute of footage per week.

Every sound a hen makes when speaking corresponds to a different beak placed on the character.

Jeffrey Katzenberg, co-chairman of DreamWorks, had been chasing Aardman for five or six years, ever since he saw Creature Comforts.

John Powell added kazoos and whistles to the movie's soundtrack to make it even more fun.

«Chicken Run» was the first feature film released by Aardman, and it grossed $224,888,359 worldwide, making it the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time according to the studio.

To voice Rocky, Mel Gibson recorded voice tests with lines from «Maverick,» which Nick Park and Peter Lord animated before confirming his casting; the actor was also a fan of «Wallace & Gromit».

534 puppets were made for the movie, including 16 of Ginger and 12 of Rocky, at an approximate cost of £3,000 per unit.

The production used 3,500 kilos of modeling clay, 60 colors, and 563 puppets, whose shades were mixed individually in a repurposed chewing gum machine.
