Synopsis of Absolutely Fabulous

Edina Monsoon is a middle-aged publicist who runs a struggling agency in Holland Park, a neighborhood in London. Her best friend, Patsy Stone, is a former model who holds a low-profile job at a major British magazine. Together they spend much of their money on tobacco, alcohol, especially Bollinger champagne, and recreational drugs, while chasing the latest trends to hold on to their youth and relive their glory days as mods in swinging London. Their lifestyle leads to constant personal crises, which Saffron, Edina's daughter, usually resolves. The series is created and written by Jennifer Saunders, who also plays Edina, and it airs on BBC One alongside Joanna Lumley as Patsy.

Trivia about Absolutely Fabulous

Jennifer Saunders revealed in 2012 that she was inspired by the pop group Bananarama, with whom she and Dawn French became friends after working together on Comic Relief in 1989.
Saunders recalled in 2016 that Joanna Lumley was not "what she had in mind for Patsy," and Lumley even asked her agent to pull her from the project after the first read-through.
Producer Jon Plowman recalled that the head of comedy didn't think it was funny to see drunk women, although an assistant to the head of entertainment copied the pilot and shared it with friends.
The opening theme is "This Wheel's on Fire," written by Bob Dylan and Rick Danko and performed by Julie Driscoll and Adrian Edmondson.
In 1994, Pet Shop Boys recorded a song for Comic Relief featuring snippets of dialogue from the series, which reached number six on the British charts that July.
From its early seasons, the show built a devoted cult following among gay audiences that endures today, and the drag performances at the Sydney Mardi Gras still pay tribute to it.
Many episodes were staged in the rehearsal room and then performed before a studio audience. After the success of the first season, some viewers came dressed as Edina and Patsy, and George Michael and Cher attended as audience members.
The series won two International Emmy Awards, five BAFTAs and four British Comedy Awards over the course of its television run.
