Synopsis of The Stranger

Adam Price leads a calm family life with his wife, Corinne, and their two children, until a young woman in a baseball cap approaches him and tells him a secret about his wife. Adam doesn't know who this woman is or what she wants, and he doesn't know whether he should believe her. Shortly after, Corinne disappears without explanation. Adam sets out to find her on his own and, at the same time, tries to uncover who the stranger is and how much she knows. The series is a British eight-episode miniseries created by Harlan Coben and streaming on Netflix. Richard Armitage plays Adam, and the story builds tension as the protagonist gets closer to the truth.

Trivia about The Stranger

In January 2019, Netflix announced a miniseries based on Harlan Coben's 2015 novel, with a script by Danny Brocklehurst and Richard Armitage in the lead role.

Filming began in Manchester in March 2019. Scenes were shot in Bury and Bolton in April, and in Stockport in June.

Rotten Tomatoes gives the miniseries a 87% approval rating, with an average score of 6.6/10 based on 23 reviews.

Harlan Coben personally reached out to Jennifer Saunders after the production team felt she was unavailable, and sent her the script to offer her the role of Heidi.

The adaptation moved the story from New Jersey to northwest England and turned the mysterious person who gives the series its title into a woman, played by Hannah John-Kamen.

With Heidi, Jennifer Saunders took on her first major dramatic role, moving away from the comedic characters she had been known for until then.

The production cast several local actors from Greater Manchester, including Leah Baskaran, Ross Grant, Misha Ade, Anthony Bacon and Anna Swan.

The scene in the first episode where the police find a beheaded alpaca was filmed at the Peel Memorial in Bury.
