Five strangers trapped. One of them is not who they seem.

A voiceover recalls a story from his childhood: the tale his mother told him and his brothers about the Devil, who roams the Earth seeking the souls of the unrepentant. Then, in Philadelphia, a man leaps from a skyscraper and leaves a suicide note that speaks of the imminent presence of the "Devil." Later, five strangers are trapped in the elevator of a large office building. None of them knows the others, and soon they begin to suspect that the Devil himself is hiding among them.

Trivia about Devil

It was the third highest-grossing film in its opening week, with a total take of 12 million euros.

Joe Cobden trained for four months for his role. According to him, the death scene, which took four days to shoot, was the most difficult to film after the introduction and the ending.

Shyamalan said the film's structure follows the same plot as Agatha Christie's novel And Then There Were None.

The shoot lasted 39 days in Toronto and coincided with an incident during location scouting: a woman was trapped for hours in an elevator of the skyscraper used for the production, whose actual address was 333.

The film grossed 63.4 million dollars worldwide on an estimated production budget of 10 million, according to figures compiled by box office sources.

M. Night Shyamalan announced a sequel in 2010 initially titled 12 Strangers and later Reincarnate, with a screenplay by Chris Sparling and direction planned by Daniel Stamm, but it never got made.

The folk tale "The Devil's Meeting," about the devil in human form, is cited as an inspiration for the film and is also mentioned within it.
