Dreamgirls

Set in the sixties and seventies, the story follows the rise of a trio of women: Effie, Deena and Lorrell, who have formed a promising group called The Dreamettes. The ambitious agent Curtis Taylor (Jamie Foxx) discovers them during a singing contest and offers them the chance of a lifetime: to sing backup for the legendary James “Thunder” Early (Eddie Murphy). Little by little, Curtis begins to control the girls' looks and music, eventually launching them as The Dreams. But the spotlight soon turns to Deena, leaving behind and even pushing aside the less attractive Effie. Although The Dreams become a true coast-to-coast phenomenon, they soon realize that the price of fame and fortune is much higher than they imagined…
