Two men determined to tell the truth ... no matter the cost.

Jeffrey Wigand is a chemist who heads the scientific research department at Brown & Williamson, an American tobacco company. He has a good salary and a family, and his professional life seems stable. Meanwhile, Lowell Bergman, producer of CBS's 60 Minutes, tries to convince Hezbollah founder Sheikh Fadlallah to grant an interview to Mike Wallace. During the preparations, Bergman and Wallace face armed, hostile bodyguards who try to intimidate them and derail the meeting. They refuse to give up an inch.

Trivia about The Insider

For the deposition scene, the filmmakers used the real courtroom in Pascagoula, Mississippi, where the original testimony was taken.
To convince in the role, Russell Crowe gained 18 kilos and sat through two hours of makeup, in addition to learning Japanese and calligraphy.
The film grossed 60.3 million dollars worldwide, well below its 90 million budget.
Joe Roth, then president of Disney, compared the film to hauling a refrigerator up a hill on your back.

Quotes by The Insider

  • You'd better take a good look, because I'm getting two things: pissed off and curious.
  • Will you tell him that when I conduct an interview, I sit anywhere I damn please!
  • What do I tell the next source when the next tough story comes along, huh? 'Hang in with us, you'll be ok maybe'? What got broken here doesn't go back together.
  • Fame has a fifteen minute half-life. Infamy lasts a little longer.
  • I'm Lowell Bergmann, I'm from 60 Minutes. You know, you take the "60 Minutes" out of that sentence, nobody returns your phone call.
  • I never left a source hang out to dry, ever! Abandoned! Not 'till right fucking now. When I came on this job I came with my word intact. I'm gonna leave with my word intact. Fuck the rules of the game!
